Crime in Brief

Operations are continuing in an effort to stamp out crime.

The Benoni Flying Squad and Police Emergency Services (PES) made 85 arrests from May 1 to 7.

• Possession of drugs
A 27-year-old man was arrested in Kempton Park when he was found in possession of 14 Mandrax tablets and eight rocks of cocaine.

• Vehicle recovery
A stolen white JAC T9 bakkie was recovered in Olifantsfontein.
It was reported as stolen in Sandringham.

Police Emergency Services

PES, including the Flying Squad, K9 Units, and Highway Patrol, arrested 84 suspects across Gauteng.
Gauteng.

The operation resulted in:
• 32 arrests for serious crimes including assault common with the intent to cause serious bodily harm, possession of suspected stolen property, house break-in, contravention of protection order, theft, dealing in illicit cigarettes, theft of motor vehicle, attempted murder, negligent discharge or handling of a firearm, driving under the influence of alcohol, shoplifting, malicious damage to property and contravention of the immigration act.

• Recovery of 37 hijacked and stolen vehicles.
Seven arrests were made on charges of being in possession of these vehicles.

• One firearm was recovered.

• 45 suspects were arrested for possession of drugs with the intent to sell.
Drugs recovered included heroin, dagga, meth, cocaine and Mandrax.
