Tayla Scrimgeour maintained her ninth-place standing despite an unfortunate incident during the final heat of the Senior Max race at the South Africa Rotax Max Challenge (SARMC) National Karting Championship at Formula K Raceway on June 14. The race took an unfortunate turn in the closing moments when, as she approached the notorious Corkscrew Turn, another competitor clipped the wheel of Scrimgeour's Kart No 228. The contact caused her to lose control and crash into the barrier. Her kart sustained damage, forcing her to retire before the chequered flag. Scrimgeour will return to action at Zwartkops Kart Circuit on July 3 to continue her upward trajectory in the national karting ranks. Photo and words: Blackie Swart
