Decomposed foetus found in Daveyton

The mother has not yet been identified.

A decomposed female foetus was discovered in Daveyton on July 6.

According to Daveyton SAPS spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel William Matome Nthswana, the foetus was discovered on Mocke Street on July 6.

Police have since opened an inquest docket.

“The mother has not yet been identified and therefore has not been traced. The matter is still under investigation by the Daveyton Detective Unit,” said Nthswana.

The discovery was initially reported by the community, who alerted authorities after noticing the foetus in an open area.

“Incidents of this nature often leave communities distressed and serve as a reminder of the importance of allowing investigations to run their course while ensuring that every case is handled with dignity and sensitivity,” said Nthswana.

Police have urged anyone with information that may assist the investigation to come forward.
