Bobcats achieve podium finish

The Belvedere Bobcats returned from the national championships with valuable experience and a podium finish after competing against some of South Africa’s top school cheerleading and dance teams.

The team secured second place in the Hip Hop Doubles category, while placing sixth in Performance Pom and eighth out of 16 teams in the Co-ed Cheer division.

Although the overall results were not what the team had hoped for, coach Vivienne Botha said there were still many positives to take from the competition.

“Our first round in Co-ed Cheer was excellent, but unfortunately the second round didn’t go our way,” Botha said.

Despite the setback, the Bobcats demonstrated determination and sportsmanship throughout the competition, representing Belvedere School and Benoni on the national stage.

The second-place finish in Hip Hop Doubles was a standout achievement, reflecting the hard work and dedication the athletes invested in preparing for the championships.

The experience also provided the team with an opportunity to compete against some of the country’s strongest schools, helping them identify areas for growth as they continue to develop their skills.

“This adventure reminded me that I have a strong team and my kids and I are capable to achieve more and we are ready for the upcoming competition, WE CAN DO IT! WE ARE THE BOBCATS!” Botha exclaimed.

One of the cheers from the team, Sky Mulder appreciated having a home within the Bobcats. 

“I am really glad that getting to the nationals made me realise that no matter the result we get, I will still have a family to turn to, my safe heaven and that all that matters,” She said.

The Bobcats will now use the lessons learned from the national championships as motivation for future competitions, with the team determined to come back stronger in the next season.
