Young people in Daveyton will have the opportunity to explore fashion, robotics, gaming and live performance when the Thrift Flip Roadshow arrives at GameOn Arcade at Daveyton Mall on September 25.

The one-day community activation aims to create a safe and engaging space where young people can explore their interests, develop new skills and connect with others.

The event is being co-created by volunteers and hosted by GameOn, a gaming arcade that provides access to gaming experiences and technology.

Led by Melanie Brummer, founder of the Up-Cycled Cloth Collective, the roadshow will showcase how unwanted textiles can be transformed into new products while creating opportunities for creativity, skills development and entrepreneurship.

Visitors will be able to browse a pop-up streetwear shop featuring designers who transform thrifted clothing into contemporary fashion and explore Brummer’s Stitched Words collection, which features embroidered words and phrases in several languages.

The event will also feature members of the Robotics League, who will demonstrate Lego robots and programming. Teams will compete in a robotics challenge requiring problem-solving and programming skills.

A photo booth, Lego robot displays and a live theatre performance will add to the entertainment.

“Whether a young person is interested in fashion, gaming, coding, design, performance or simply spending time with friends, we want them to see that there are many different ways to learn, create and contribute,” said Brummer.

The event is free and open to the public.
