All set for Seesa Jozi Triathlon on Saturday

Residents and motorists around Ebotse Estate, parts of Rynfield and Morehill are urge to exercise extreme caution on the road as some roads will be used for the cyling and running legs of the event.

Around 500 participants are expected to take part in the Seesa Jozi Triathlon on September 26 at CR Swart Dam and Ebotse Golf and Country Estate.

Known as Gauteng’s biggest triathlon, the event, organised by SA’s triathlon legend Glen Gore, returns to Benoni for the fourth year in a row after debuting at CR Swart Dam in 2023.

“We are expecting a sold out race this year which is capped at 500 athletes,” said Gore.

A participants exits the dam after completing her swim in last year’s event.

The participants will take part in a swim that ranges from 200m up to 1.5km, the cycle that starts at 10km and goes right up to 40km, and a run from 2km up to the grand total of 10km.

“Those that can do all three legs will line up as triathletes to tackle the super sprint distance, sprint distance and standard distance. There is also a Team Option where two or three members can team up and participate in the action-packed day themselves,” said Gore.

“What makes this triathlon really unique? For starters the swim takes place in the CR Swart dam – this is one of the cleanest bodies of water left in Gauteng. Unaffected by stream flow-ins and managed by the Ebotse Estate, the water is some of the cleanest you can ever swim in. The dam is also relatively shallow and that creates a safer and a warmer swim for all those that arrive on race day.

“The cycle leg is held in and around the suburb of Benoni that frequents the Benoni Country Club. Not too many cycle events these days take place close to built-up housing so that makes this one a little more special.

“The run takes place inside the estate and on the golf course – almost like running in a different world and with no cars to affect the runners

“All in all – this is the best triathlon – rand for rand in terms of entry fee – the value the athletes get back in return and the scenery and race experience that one can expect.

Children aged10 years and up will be participating, making this event a real family affair.

Once the racing is done normally around 11:00, athletes then generally make a day of it and stay at the dam to enjoy the start of summer after a hard mornings exercise effort.

The event starts at 07:00.
