Etwatwa home overrun by sewage

The problem started seven months ago

Nomsa Twala of Ext 10 Etwatwa claims that the City of Ekurhuleni is not doing anything to end the sewage spill into her yard and house, that started seven months ago.

“I reported the matter to the Etwatwa Customer Care Centre and they told me that they cannot assist as the problem is coming from a pump station. This station is not working due to illegal connections from Ebumnandini squatter camp,” explained Twala.

Twala said she reported the issue to her ward councillor, Siyabonga Moloi, but the councillor provided no help.

City of Ekurhuleni spokesperson Zweli Dlamini said the metro is currently utilising vacuum trucks to suck the pump station sump to lower the level in an effort to bring some relief to residents.

“As a long-term solution, the city is looking at phasing out the pump station and diverting the flow to a bigger pump station in Etwatwa Ext 18,” said Dlamini.
