Members of the Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) once again recorded successes during their routine high visibility patrols.
From August 23 to 28, six suspects were arrested, three motor vehicles were recovered and one unlicensed firearm was seized.
Stolen vehicle recovered
On August 23, at 20:30 members received information from Crime Intelligence that a white Toyota Hilux, bearing false number plates, was travelling on the R21 in the direction of Pretoria.
Officers intercepted the alleged stolen vehicle at the Olifantsfontein off-ramp.
Investigations confirmed that the registration plates as well as the licence disc had been falsified and that the vehicle was reported as stolen in Sandringham in July last year.
Both occupants were arrested.
Unlicensed firearm seized
Sergeant Lavit Shongwe and Constable Thato Diponto were conducting patrols in Main Street, Kliptown West, Soweto, when three males, who had been walking on the side of the road, started running away from the patrol vehicle.
Officers gave chase and apprehended one of the men.
A search was conducted and the suspect was found to be in possession of an unlicensed CZ 9mm pistol with 10 live rounds of ammunition.
The 26-year-old suspect was arrested and the firearm seized. The firearm had been reported as stolen in Kempton Park in November 2019.
Stolen goods recovered
On August 27, while patrolling Denge Street, officers were approached by members of the community who had confronted two suspects who were in possession of four suitcases containing household items including clothes and curtains.
Upon investigation, it was found that the goods were taken during a housebreaking in Springs.
The suspects were arrested on the scene and the victim was notified.
Possession of drugs
One person was arrested in Pillay Street, Actonville, on charges of being in possession of crystal methamphetamine.
Abandoned vehicle
• A white Ford Fiesta was recovered at Jeppe Hostel. It was reported as hijacked in Cleveland.
