Mr and Miss Actonville 2022 to be held in October

Over 80 young people from Actonville and surrounding areas are vying for the coveted title of Mr and Miss Actonville 2022, which is set to take place at the Actonville Community Centre on October 21 and 22.

The second annual Mr and Miss Actonville is expected to be bigger and better with a new category called Mr and Miss/Mrs Actonville Senior for 36-year-olds and above.

The event on October 21 will start at 19:00, then on October 22 from 10:00 to 18:00.

According to the organiser of the event, Shanon Kannigan, entries have already been received from hopeful beauty queens and kings.

Categories are Mr and Miss Actonville Junior (ages 6 to 12), Mr and Miss Actonville Teen (ages 13 to 17), Mr and Miss Actonville (ages 18 to 35) and Mr and Miss/ Mrs Actonville Senior (ages 36 and above).

Prizes: winner (R1000), first runner-up (R700) and R500 for second runner-up. Judges will include local celebrities, Idols SA contestant Dinky Kunene, Bachelorette SA contestant Justin Lakey, Meneer Cee and Miss Drag SA Miz Cambell.

Kannigan, who is the title holder for Mr Gay World South Africa, said the initiative came after he realised how Actonville has none too little extracurricular activity for young people who are faced with the challenges of teenage suicide, unemployment and poverty.

The first annual Mr and Miss Actonville took place on October 9 with a total of 102 participants. Eighteen contestants went home with crowns and a most courageous award was presented to a disabled participant.
