Task team seize unlicensed firearm
Continued efforts lead to more firearm related successes
Members of the Ekurhuleni Task Team arrested a 29-year-old in Kingsway on October 3, at 14:00.
Members of the task team were conducting routine stop-and-search operations on Paul Kruger Road, when the suspect, travelling in an Opel Astra, was stopped.
“The driver of the vehicle was requested to produce his driver’s licence, but his hesitation led officers to believe that something was amiss,” said Capt Nomsa Sekele, spokesperson for the Benoni Police Station.
“The driver was instructed to step out of the vehicle and a thorough search led to the discovery of an unlicensed firearm and six live rounds. The firearm’s serial number had been filed off.”
The suspect was remanded in police custody.
Benoni SAPS’s station commander Brigadier Thabo Mphuthi commended the officers efforts in bringing suspects to book.
