Music students put on a magical performance for children, elderly
The academy has students of mostly school-going age and hosts a big production every year.
Farrarmere’s Sharp Music Academy staged its 23rd annual show at Barnyard Theatre, Emperors Palace, on October 29.
Lizette de Klerk, owner, teacher and organiser of the show, explained the academy has students of mostly school-going age and hosts a big production every year.
“We had two fully booked shows on the day and due to Covid restrictions being lifted were able to invite children’s homes as we have done in the past, as well as a care facility for elderly people to attend the morning show.
“All the students participate in a solo and a few group items. They are offered the opportunity to visit a recording studio to record all their songs, which I believe is also an important part of voice training.

“We also have a professional photoshoot for the students prior to the show. My aim is to give the students the opportunity to showcase what they’ve learnt during their time at C Sharp and to perform on a proper stage with all the ‘trimmings’ that the professionals have, such as dancers, costumes, professional lighting and sound, without it being a competition environment.
“Our choreographers, Maritza van Staden and Yolandi de Vasconcelos, created magic on stage with the help of very talented dancers.”
Lizette added that finding suitable rehearsal time for this year’s show was definitely more challenging as almost all of the schools had big concerts and numerous cultural or sporting activities after two years of Covid.
“It looked like the kids’ schedules exploded this year! However, this year we were very honoured to have Dodo Nyoka (runner-up in the Kyknet singing competition Die Kontrak) attending our show,” she said.
“The Barnyard Theatre is definitely a fantastic venue and besides giving the children the opportunity to perform on a professional stage, it creates a very relaxed atmosphere for the audience, from whom we were honoured to receive positive feedback.”
