Rapid Response operations bring 134 suspects to book

Suspects will be appearing in the local magistrates courts across Gauteng

Concentrated operations conducted by the units that form part of the Gauteng Rapid Response Services closed the net on 134 suspects from December 2 to 8.

Operations included vehicle checkpoints, secure escorts and intensive patrols around the province.

During the operations, 60 motor vehicles were recovered as well as six firearms.

According to Warrant Officer Grant Giblin, spokesperson for the Benoni Flying Squad (BFS), 49 suspects were arrested on charges of murder, assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm, rape, shoplifting, theft, possession of stolen property, tampering with essential infrastructure, robbery, housebreaking, domestic violence, being in possession of counterfeit money, hijacking and contravention of court orders.

“Of the 60 vehicles recovered, eight people were arrested for being in possession of stolen property,” he said.

“In the recovery of illegal firearms, nine arrests were made for possession thereof.”

He continued by saying 68 drug-related arrests were made and illegal substances were seized.
