Call for young volunteers to join honorary rangers programme

The programme has five phases and at the end all rangers receive certificates.

The East Rand SANParks Junior Honorary Rangers (JHR) are calling for children aged between 12 and 18 interested in conservation and the environment to join them when they kick off their 2023 programme on January 21 at Northfield Methodist Church.

The SANParks JHR is aimed at young volunteers who have an interest in protecting the environment and conservation of natural resources.

“The programme offers a fun-filled year of activities, outings and talks by experts in the field of nature conservation.

“The youngsters learn about our national parks, the environmental threats they face, how to identify plants and animals in their area and what it means to be an eco-volunteer making a difference for the planet.

“Meetings are held every month, with each member submitting a portfolio for evaluation at the end of the year.

“There are five phases to be completed and certificates are awarded for each,” she said.

If you wish to attend, RSVP to Tamryn Bluff at 079 498 6578 or Alison Coppin at 083 292 5406 who will provide directions and advise on which documents to bring.
