UPDATE: Water supply returning steadily says metro

Although water levels are rising residents are urged to use water sparingly

Water supply to major parts of the city is steadily returning to normal.

Taps started running dry throughout the city from January 27, with the Daveyton, Etwatwa, Mayfield, Barcelona Mokgoba, Farrarmere, Northmead, Rynfield and Brentwood Park being worst affected.

According to Zweli Dlamini, spokesperson for the Ekurhuleni metro, water supply has been restored in most areas, however, high lying areas such as Brentwood Park remain without water while water levels at the affected reservoirs are continuing to rise.

“Pumping of water at Northmead pump station has also been restored, however, load-shedding remains to be a challenge in ensuring that optimum storage capacity is reached,” said Dlamini.

“Roving water tankers will continue to supply water in areas that have not yet been stabilised.”
