WATCH: Crime increase in Putfontein leads to first operation O Kae Molao

A total of 43 suspects were arrested for various crimes during the operation in Putfontein.

The increase in contact and trio crimes led to the first integrated Operation Okae Molao in Putfontein on February 8 and 9.

It was led by Ekurhuleni district commissioner Major General Anna Sithole.

According to Sithole, the Putfontein Police Station’s efforts to deal with contact crimes, hijackings, robberies and robberies with aggravating circumstances needed to be bolstered. This is why they needed to show visibility and assure the community they are dealing with crimes of any kind.

A total of 43 suspects were arrested for various crimes during the operation. Fourteen of these suspects were on the wanted list and 27 were illegally in the country. Two suspects were arrested for possession of Mandrax and crystal meth and three illegal taverns were closed and liquor confiscated.

According to district spokesperson Captain Bernard Matimulane, these arrests brought the number of suspects arrested during the district-wide operation Okae Molao to 170.

“These suspects were arrested for various crimes including rape, murder, car hijacking and malicious damage to property.

“Note that 31 of this total amount of suspects were arrested for GBV, 14 for rape, four for kidnappings and 20 for malicious property damage,” Matimulane said.

Undocumented foreign nationals are ushered into a police van.

The EMPD also confiscated items valued at R19 000 from a panel beater for failure to comply with a warning and failure to pay a fine.

“I want to thank the officers from SAPS, EMPD, traffic, home affairs and CPF for their commitment to rooting out crime and criminality in Ekurhuleni,” concluded Sithole.
