Putfontein SAPS condemns ‘mob justice’ murders

Police are investigating a case of double murder.

Putfontein SAPS station commander Lietenant Colonel Wellington Mathiane has strongly condemned a recent fatal mob attack on two men in Mayfield.

According to Putfontein SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Raider Ubisi, the men were severely attacked by community members after they were accused of breaking into a house and stealing a laptop and cellphones.

“One of the victims died at the scene while the other died in hospital. The police are investigating a case of double murder,” said Ubisi.

Mathiane has urged community members to refrain from taking the law into their own hands and instead report perpetrators of crime to the police.

The latest mob killings in Putfontein come after three men recently died after being assaulted in separate incidents in Barcelona and Emphupheni in Etwtatwa.

The body of one of the victims was also set alight.

One victim was accused of being a drug dealer, and the other two were allegedly caught stealing from a house in Etwatwa.
