POWER UPDATE: Restoration still on track for tomorrow

Affected areas to be switched on, on March 31 as previously indicated.

After a week since large parts of Benoni were plunged into darkness, there seems to be light at the end of the tunnel.

It was reported by the metro that on March 23, a leak was detected on a 132kV oil-filled cable causing it to overheat and that this was the cause of the widespread power outage.

According to information received from the City of Ekurhuleni’s spokesperson, Zweli Dlamini, the cable jointing will be completed today (March 30).

“Oil circulation throughout the cable will commence and it will be energised,” he said.

“It will remain idle throughout the night and will subsequently start bearing load tomorrow (March 31), in line with the energy team’s initial plan.”

Dlamini further stated that updates will be provided as the affected areas come online.
