Sophie April, the mother of one of the deceased, told the City Times that she last saw her 22-year-old son this morning when she left for work.
Two men, both unidentified at this stage, died and a Fidelity security guard was injured after being shot during a cash-in-transit (CIT) heist this morning (April 5) near the corner of Putfontein Road and Nicole Drive, Cloverdene.
Police have launched a manhunt for the group of suspects who bombed and robbed the CIT van at around 07:15.
SAPS spokesperson Athlenda Mathe said an undisclosed amount of cash was stolen before the suspects fled the scene.
“Police recovered three getaway vehicles – a burnt-out gold BMW sedan, a silver SUV and a white Audi A1,” said Mathe.

Two of the vehicles were reportedly stolen in Yeoville and one in Putfontein.
When the Benoni City Times arrived at the scene at around 10:00 to find the Fidelity van completely blown open and debris spread across the road and veld.
Crime scene expects, including the SAPS bomb disposal unit, were investigating the scene while traffic was redirected to alternative routes.
At the second crime scene, in Limpopo Street, Cloverdene, the silver SUV and white Audi A1 were found parked in the street with the doors open.

Sophie April, the mother of one of the deceased, was on the scene and told the City Times that she last saw her 22-year-old son this morning when she left for work.
Visibly distraught, the mother of four said her elder son told her his brother said he was rushing to the crime scene to pick up money when he heard about the CIT heist.
