Putfontein SAPS beam with pride

The certificates were handed out by the Ekurhuleni District Commander, Major General Anna Sithole, at the Germiston Hall during a crime combating forum meeting.

Despite not having holding cells or adequate office space, the Putfontein Police Station has continued to serve the community with dedication and commitment.

Proof of this was when the station received three awards from Ekurhuleni District Commander Major General Anna Sithole at a recent SAPS forum meeting in Germiston.

The Putfontein SAPS, established in about 1987, was recognised for its diligent and thorough work carried out in the third quarter of 2022/23, along with other Ekurhuleni police stations.

The station scooped first place and achieved 100% for its National Photographic Image System. It was also a runner-up in the Human Resources Management (HRM) Efficiency category and took second runner-up in Detective Services.

Putfontein Police Station Commander Lieutenant Colonel Wellington Mathiane proudly displays the station’s certificates.

Detective Captain Goodman Zulu heads the detective branch and Louise Sithole heads the HRM Department.

In the DNA (Buccal) category, the Benoni and Etwatwa SAPS came out tops. The Daveyton SAPS took third in the HRM category.

The Putfontein SAPS station commander, Lieutenant Colonel Wellington Mathiane, was excited because of the station’s excellent performance at the awards.

“In some instances, people don’t see our efforts and commitment until we are recognised for our work,” he said.

He applauded members working under his command for their hard work and team spirit.

“I think what sets the Putfontein SAPS apart is that I monitor and motivate my officers.

“It is important, as a leader, to make yourself available for members to talk to you. They need support to perform at their best,” said Mathiane.

He said among the challenges officers face is over-population in their policing area, which puts pressure on their available resources, and the area’s poor road infrastructure.
