Law enforcers bring suspects to book

Operations will continue as law enforcement agencies intensifies its fight against crime.

Law enforcement units that form part of the SAPS Rapid Response Service (RRS) have once again brought scores of criminals to book.

Members comprising the Flying Squad, K9 units and Highway Patrol throughout the province arrested 200 suspects from April 29 to May 11.

Through the establishment of concentrated operations, vehicle checkpoints and intensive patrols, 69 suspects were arrested for crimes including assault with the intent of causing grievous bodily harm, possession of suspected stolen goods, house burglary, being in the country illegally, pointing of a firearm at someone, possession of illicit cigarettes, malicious damage to property, robbery, bribery, conspiracy to commit a robbery and attempted hijacking.

The units recovered 96 hijacked and stolen vehicles, accompanied by 30 arrests for possession of these vehicles.

“A total of 14 unlicensed firearms were also recovered and 18 people arrested for being in possession thereof,” said Warrant Officer Grant Giblin, spokesperson for the Benoni Flying Squad (BFS).

“Further policing led to the arrest of 83 people for possession of and dealing in drugs. Heroin, dagga, cocaine,

Mandrax and meth were confiscated in these separate incidents.”
