Brentwood Park residents protest over rolling blackouts

The Benoni City Times has sent an enquiry to the metro.

Brentwood Park residents took their grievances to the streets this afternoon (June 2) to protest against ongoing power outages in the area.

According to a group of residents who gathered on the corner of West and Main streets, they have been experiencing power outages for the past three weeks.

Despite load-shedding, they claim they sit long hours without electricity while local factories have power.

A resident, Jakes Van Heerden, said: “We understand that load-shedding is part of our daily lives, however, we are left without power for days. We are fed up. We cannot do this anymore. We pay for our electricity but when we ask for help during the weekend, we are told that there’s no money for overtime.”

He added that the protest formed part of their efforts to be seen or heard.

Ward 25 Clr Danie Putter was at the site to address residents.
