LDAC strengthens action against drug abuse in communities

Various speakers from different organisations took to the stage to highlight their services.

As part of their efforts to shield young people from using drugs and ultimately achieve their goal of a drug-free society, a local Drug Action Committee (LDAC) hosted a substance abuse awareness campaign recently at Actonville Stadium.

More than 50 youngsters gathered at the stadium to enjoy a day out while being enlightened about the dangers of drugs.

Comprising of organisations such as Ilanga Extension (Emandleni), Department of Social Development, SANCA, SAPS and many others, the committee aimed to enlighten the youth that there are alternative things that they can do besides taking drugs.

SANCA’s Ke Moka representatives Thokozane Khoza warned youngsters about the dangers of drugs.

According to the chairperson of the committee, Million Khoza, the turnout was great though it could’ve been better if they had the full support of the community.

Khoza added that they are working on a programme that will empower parents on how they can also play a role in prevention and awareness in their homes.

Local football and netball clubs played friendly matches during the event which saw various speakers from different organisations take to the stage to highlight their services.

Representations from SANCA rendered a Sarafina dance during the awareness event which took place at Actonville Stadium recently.
