To honour Nelson Mandela, the Benoni City Times visited Bollie Creche Nursery School to ask learners what they had heard about Mandela and their birthday message to him.
Kiera Farham (six): Nelson Mandela is one of the old presidents who was friendly to everyone. He united everyone. My message to him is, ‘Happy birthday, Mandela. Have a nice day.’

Logan Vester (six): I have heard about Nelson Mandela. He was our president a long time ago. My message to him would be: ‘I hope you have a nice birthday in heaven.’
Ashlin Cooper (four): I have heard about Nelson Mandela. He was in prison and he died. My message to him: ‘Have a nice birthday and enjoy your day.’
Levi Heath (six): Mandela was a respected man and was a president a long long time ago. My message to him on his birthday is, ‘Happy birthday. Have a wonderful day.’
