Locals share a birthday with Madiba
The birthday girl and boy said they considered their birthdays special.
Birthday wishes continued to flood in for ‘Nomi’ and Flommie Magopane of Kids Haven on July 18, as they shared their special birthdays with Nelson Mandela.
While community members heeded the national call for community service, dedicating 67 minutes of their time, ‘Nomi’, a beneficiary and Magopane, a driver, were both elated to add a digit to their ages.
Protecting her identity, Nomi is not her real name. She celebrated her 10th birthday while Magopane turned 58 years old.
The 10-year-old said she found her birthday a bit more special than other birthdays because she shares her birthday with Madiba, the father of the nation.
Magopane shared he was not only sharing the day with Madiba but also with his late father, Richard Magopane, who died in 1985.
Recalling his fondest memories while growing up, Magopane said he would always look forward to his birthday because he used to be spoiled with delicious biscuits and a top-notch supper.
Magopane, who lives in Daveyton, has been working for Kids Haven for the past three years.
