Hardships of life inspires author to write a book
The book is meant to give people hope after dark times.
Farrarmere resident Tyrelle Wood has published her first book titled The magic within her, which she wrote while in hospital after her apartment went up in flames in January.
The 25-year-old said she wrote the poetry memoir to inspire and enlighten people about how life can be one’s biggest challenge and how to overcome life’s challenges.
Wood said she lost her apartment and all her belongings during the fire, leaving her with just the clothes she was wearing on that day.
“I stood there watching everything I had worked hard for burn to ashes. Unfortunately, the Benoni fire department had no water and diverted to the Boksburg Fire Station, which delayed things even more. It was definitely and undeniably the worst day of my life. There is no specific feeling to how I felt because I felt angry, sad, anxious and confused,” she said.

Dealing with so much on her plate, Wood said she tried committing suicide in February with an overdose of pills because she was immensely struggling to move on.
In March, she got a job that enabled her to move on from the incident by getting a new apartment.
When things seemed to be back on track, in April, she ended up back in hospital after being involved in an accident.
“A construction truck bumped into my car. It dragged the car for about 50m while being hooked to the front of the truck,” she said.
She said she wrote her poetry memoir to encourage people that suicide is not an option no matter what they face.
“My book will give hope and help readers see that there is hope after dark times,” said Wood.
