By-law operation hits scrapyard to check for compliance

Entrepreneurs are urged to apply for trading permits at their nearest Customer Care Centres.

Members of the EMPD Bronberg precinct visited various scrapyards in the Putfontein area on July 11 and 12 to check for compliance with the City of Ekurhuleni (CoE) by-laws.

According to EMPD spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Kelebogile Thepa, the scrapyard owner at the corner of Kerk and Durant streets received a notice of non-compliance because his trading permit was no longer valid.

“Officers also issued a notice of non-compliance at the second scrapyard on Hennings Road because there was no fire and safety permit on the premises,” said Thepa.

This scrap yard was checked for compliance with by-laws.

“The officers also demolished illegal structures at the corner of Durant and Small streets. They issued written notices to traders who operated without valid permits.”

In the Chief Luthuli zone, they moved hawkers obstructing the pavement from the side of the road.

The EMPD urges all entrepreneurs to apply for trading permits at their nearest customer care centre to avoid an interruption to their operations and prosecution.

Bronberg Precinct Officers issued a notice of non-compliance of the law to several owners of scrapyards.
