Crime round-up
Two arrests were made on charges of being in possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
Routine operations conducted by members of the Benoni Flying Squad (BFS), from August 7 to 13, led to the arrest of 10 suspects and the recovery of an unlicensed firearm.
Unlicensed firearm and ammunition
• On August 8, officers followed up on information about unlicensed ammunition kept at a property in Victoria Street, Brakpan.
At 16:30, officers arrested the 47-year-old suspect when he was found in possession of two live rounds of 12-gauge shotgun ammunition.

• A foreign national was arrested at a shop in Blue Acora Street, Ivory Park after he was found in possession of an unlicensed 9mm Beretta pistol.
“BFs members were following up on information received from the Crime Intelligence unit,” said Warrant Officer Grant Giblin, BFS spokesperson.
“Officers further confiscated 18 live rounds of ammunition.”
Possession of drugs
• While patrolling the N12 in the early hours of August 9, officers spotted a silver Lexus travelling at a high speed.
“Officers followed the vehicle as it continued to speed in the direction of Etwatwa,” said Giblin.
“The vehicle was brought to a stop next to Emandela Section and a search conducted led to the discovery of three large bags of dagga, with an estimated value of R50 000.”
The 36-year-old driver was arrested.

• Six suspects were arrested on charges of being in possession of drugs.
The arrests were made in Elston Street, Benoni, Wenden Avenue, Brakpan, Umthambeka Section, Thembisa, Kaalfontein, Ivory Park as well as Congo Street and Chris Hani Drive, Etwattwa.
Heroine, mandrax and meth were recovered.
Assault
A 29-year-old man was arrested on August 13 after his mother approached patrolling officers, alleging that he had assaulted her.
The suspect was found at a home in Maskhane Street where he was arrested.
Vehicle recovered
A white Toyota Hilux was recovered in Manamela Street, Ivory Park, it was reported as stolen in Rustenburg.
