Ekurhuleni Outreach Programme enlightens youth

The purpose of the outreach was to link unemployed youth to employment or training opportunities.

The National Youth Development Agency (NYDA), the mining company Gold One, and other organisations, recently hosted the Ekurhuleni Outreach Programme targeting unemployed youth in Lindelani and surrounding areas.

The outreach programme was at the Lindelani councillor’s office where stakeholders such as Ekurhuleni Artisans and Skills Training Centre, Tambo Community Development Corporation, Department of Health (Dan Khubeka Clinic), Department of Employment and Labour Benoni, Gauteng Department of Social Development and the Far East Rand Hospital equipped attendees with information.

Chris Nchabeleng of Gold One Modder East Operations said they targeted the Lindelani area because of the high employment rate.

Unemployed youth register their details with various organisations that offer internship and learnership opportunities during the Ekurhuleni Outreach Programme.

According to Mandisa Makhutla of NYDA, the outreach purpose was to empower young people with information about what the NYDA does and encourage them to take part in the economy by offering them products and services.

“Today’s outreach is a build-up to an upcoming training for unemployed youth in life skills, business management and corporative government in the coming weeks. Such programmes are important to inform young people about institutions to assist them,” said Makhutla.
