Wattville schools tournament well supported

The aim of the tournament was to keep children busy and off the streets.

Various primary schools in Wattville recently went head-to-head with each other during a fun-filled sporting event at Wattville Stadium.

The U14 and U15 open netball and soccer tournament saw learners from Magalelagase, Kgothalang, Lesabe, Isaac Makau, Ekukhanyeni, Solomon and Emaromeni primary schools taking part in netball and soccer games.

The organiser, Lebohang Mofokeng, said he was thrilled that everything went well.

“These games wouldn’t have been possible without the assistance of sponsors, Collen Tlemo Foundation and Zito Chicken. They donated medals and trophies for winners.

“Seeing that many of our learners don’t take part in tournaments and leagues we decided to host these game. The purpose of the games was to develop the love of sports in young children,” said Mofokeng.

Lerato Ndlovu of Zito Chicken said they fully supported the initiative because sports keeps children busy and off the streets while it also showcases their talents.
She added that they are looking into extending these matches to secondary school learners.
