Two suspects linked to murder of teen in Bapsfontein

The 14-year-old was taken to a nearest medical care centre where he was certified dead on arrival.

Crystal Park police have allegedly linked two men to the murder of a 14-year-old boy who was shot dead during a house robbery on a farm in Bapsfontein two weeks ago.

This is after the two men were found in possession of a stolen firearm linked to a Welbekend SAPS case number that involves the murder of the teenager.

According to Crystal Park SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Lerato Mopeli, on October 14 police received information about a planned robbery in Dassie Road, Petit.

The information received stated that the suspects would be driving a silver Polo TSI with a specified registration number.

Mopeli said that at around 01:46 on the same day, security guards spotted the vehicle and called for backup.

“When the police approached the vehicle, they found two male occupants, one in front and the other in the back seat.

“Upon searching the vehicle they found a .38 special Astra revolver loaded with two bullets. Investigations revealed that the firearm was reported stolen at Welbekend Police station,” Mopeli said.

The police officers proceeded to interview the owners of the house in Petit and it was discovered that a security guard at that property had been tied up with rope.

“The security guard was found with minor wounds, which indicated he had been bound,” said Mopeli.

The pair were arrested and charged with attempted house robbery and possession of an unlicenced firearm and ammunition. They appeared in the Daveyton Magistrate’s Court last week.

House robbery and murder in Bapsfontein
Gauteng police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo said that on October 7 about five suspects entered the house and demanded safe keys.

Masondo said one of the family members ran to the safe and took out a firearm, but the suspects overpowered him and shot him in the chest before fleeing.
Police said the suspects are believed to have fled in two cars that were parked on the road.

The 14-year-old was taken to a nearest medical care centre where he was certified dead on arrival.
