Another ‘knight’ to remember for Rynfield’s Martin

Toyota Knights represent an elite group of salespeople.

Martin Erwee, a Rynfield resident and sales executive at East Rand Toyota in Boksburg, pocketed the Toyota Automark Sales Executive Knight of the Year accolade for the 18th consecutive year at the Champagne Sports Resort on March 16.

He was also awarded a knighthood as an honourary knight for the 29th year during the Knights Investiture ceremony.

Toyota Knights represent an elite group of salespeople who are valuable assets to their dealerships and Toyota SA.

Not only do they make significant contributions to the viability, by way of profitability, of their dealerships, but they also promote the image of the salesperson and create aspirational levels for other Toyota salespeople.

The ‘knight’, who has been with the dealership for 33 years, said he is still on cloud nine about his victory.

“I’m humbled. It’s always special whey announce your name at the event. Each time it feels like the first time winning this award. It’s always nerve-wrecking because you never know what is going to happen. I never thought that I would walk away with the title for 18 years in a row,” he added.

Erwee said his secret to success is going above and beyond for clients, who he refers to as guests.

“Client service is extremely important, and it’s important to build a relationship with your clients and gain their trust. You need to show them empathy and respect.”

The sales executive pointed out that the standard of the competition is strong and has improved over the years.

“Each year you have to work hard and improve on how performed the previous year,” said Erwee.

Erwee won a trip to Swakopmund with his wife, Michelle, in September.

He expressed his gratitude to his clients, family and everybody who supported him.

Erwee’s goal is to win the title for the 20th year.

Charity

Erwee remains involved with many charity organisations such as New Beginnings, the Salvation Army in Benoni, Delmas Animal Shelter, Boksburg SPCA and Adora-Bull Terrier Rescue and Rehabilitation.

The Toyota Knight is passionate about assisting the most vulnerable, such as children and animals.

He organises colouring-in competitions for the children and treats the elderly to cookies. He also hands out food at the Blue Skye informal settlement.

“I also like to spend time with the beneficiaries instead of just dropping off donations. It’s always nice to see the smiles on people’s faces,” he said.

He explains that some of his clients who are aware of his charity involvements assist with donations. He also receives support from businesses.

“I can’t save the world, but together we can make a difference,” he said.

Corne de Witt, dealer principal of East Rand Toyota, expressed his gratitude to Erwee for his hard work and dedication.

“Not many understand what it takes to earn the recognition for that award. Thank you for giving up your time and doing what you doing. Thanks for keeping the East Rand flag flying. You don’t have to do it, but yet you do it. This proves your commitment and dedication to our brand and dealership.

“It’s honestly an honour and privilege to be able to say you are part of the East Rand Toyota,” De Witt added.
