Nibs to celebrate 60th birthday with 'Back to My Roots` gig in Benoni

He is thrilled to return to his roots, walk the familiar streets of his old suburb, and perform at one of his favourite venues.

Acclaimed South African acoustic guitarist Nibs van der Spuy is set to return to his hometown of Benoni for a special one-off performance on April 24, to celebrate his 60th birthday.

Nibs’s musical journey began over four decades ago while attending Benoni High School.

“I picked up my dad’s old nylon string guitar in 1980 and started teaching myself from a Beatles book. I was instantly hooked and began performing my own songs as early as 1982,” he recalls.

During his school years, he formed a band called “Paradise” with classmates, writing original songs and winning local talent contests.

Now residing in Portugal, Nibs runs a successful cycling touring company where he takes small groups on cycling adventures through the picturesque rural landscapes.

However, he is thrilled to return to his roots, walk the familiar streets of his old suburb, and perform at one of his favourite venues, Bohemia, just a stone’s throw from Benoni High.

Join Nibs for this unforgettable celebration of music, memories, and milestones as he honours his past and shares his journey with the community that shaped him.
