Crime in Brief

Operations are set to continue in the lead up to the long weekend.

Between April 10 and 18, Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) and Police Emergency Services (PES) arrested 104 suspects and recovered vehicles.

Possession of drugs

BFS officers arrested five suspects, aged between 20 and 36, on charges of possession of drugs. Arrests were made in Brakpan and Etwatwa West. Mandrax and meth were recovered.

Vehicle recovery

• A stripped white Nissan NP200 was recovered at former Alliance railway station, Benoni. The vehicle was reported as stolen in Daveyton.
• A truck trailer reported as stolen in Odendalsrus was recovered on a plot in Grant Street, Putfontein.
No arrests were made

Police Emergency Services (PES)

Between April 10 and 16, the PES, including the Flying Squad, K9 Units, and Highway Patrol, arrested 98 suspects across Gauteng.

The operation resulted in:
• 34 arrests for serious crimes including common assault as well as assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm, possession of suspected stolen property, house robbery, illegal possession of controlled medicine, attempted murder, malicious damage to property, murder, contravention of a protection order, rape, contempt of court, theft, driving under the influence of alcohol, pointing of a firearm and contravention of the immigration act.

• Recovery of 55 hijacked and stolen vehicles.
Eleven arrests were made on charges of being in possession of these vehicles.

• Three suspects were arrested for being in possession of unlicensed firearms. Three weapons were seized

• 50 suspects were arrested for possession of drugs with the intent to sell.
Drugs recovered included heroin, dagga, meth, cocaine and Mandrax.
