Is the money being put to good use?

Jenny Philips of Crystal Park writes:

So that’s it then!

The end of the matter.

The “illegal” refuse levy was an administrative error.

Residents’ accounts won’t be credited, as the amount was meant to be included in the refuse removal charge as part of the 15 per cent increase which came into effect in July last year, to cover a portion of the non-income generating services rendered by council.

If my calculations are correct, the charge has given council an additional amount of approximately R44 049 600 to date, to generate services rendered by council.

Such as operating costs of mini waste disposal sites, litter picking and removal of illegally dumped refuse.

Is the money being put to good use?

Do residents notice less rubbish lying around in their areas?

It would be interesting to hear people’s comments.

In the meantime, I wait in fear and trepidation of the next administrative error.
