Dalrymple Street frustration

Frustrated Road User writes by email:

Dalrymple Street amongst others, serves two high schools, two nursery schools, as well as a community college.

There are street signs at each end of the road as well as where Spey Street joins Dalrymple, which clearly indicates the road to be a one-way system during certain times.

Both schools have clearly defined no stopping areas, yet despite this there are parents who insist on inconveniencing other road users by stopping randomly – even along a red line outside of Hans Moore.

Cars leaving the car park outside of Hans Moore turn into on-coming traffic to quickly nip the 10m to turn onto Spey Street (or from Spey, the quick 20m to the car park entrance).

Then you get those road users delivering little ones to nursery school who are just not prepared to take the long way round dictated by the imposed one way.

And, of course, community college students and taxis who are just not prepared to adhere to the one-way system.

There are street signs, but this law is never policed in anyway.

You get drivers that just disregard the inconvenience, you get drivers that feel they shouldn’t need to wait those last 10 minutes … and without fail they are all abusive, as if you are the person in the wrong.

It would be great to see some level of policing in areas such as this one by our local traffic department – as always, never a cop in sight when you need one.

Too many individuals feel they are above the law, why have laws if there’s nobody to enforce them?
