Sub-standard road markings are a waste of time and money

Concerned writes by email:

Much has been said about road markings, or lack of, should I say.

My husband saw why they don’t last two minutes on our roads this week.

Unfortunately he didn’t think to take a photo of the council painting the roads at the four-way stop by the Brentwood Pick n Pay and retirement villages.

The intersection is covered in sand as it’s an industrial area which was not swept up first and potholes.

Then they painted with Plascon contractors PVA. Yes that’s correct!

What a waste of time and money!

There was a thing some time ago where the paint was questioned and compared with Cape Town, as their road markings last more than a week or two.

Council assured they were using the correct paint.

Do they not realise or care they could be responsible for many accidents resulting from no visible markings?

Overseas visitors ask how we manage to drive safely on our roads? We reply we don’t!

The roads are atrocious and cause endless damage to vehicles like the huge pothole on the Brentwood Park Road which caused R5 000 damage to a tyre this week.

It’s time they spent our money where it’s needed not on food and drink for council parties.
