I recently attended a 25th birthday party of a good friend.
Towards the end of the evening, something happened that spoiled the whole party – well, for me anyway.
A man, I am guessing to be in his mid-forties, a family friend apparently, for some reason decided that it would be alright to grope another friend of ours who was also attending the party.
She was very upset about it and when her boyfriend noticed, he asked what had happened.
When he told him, he approached the older man, and asked him to respect his girlfriend and not to touch her again.
What happened next truly startled me.

The older man became abusive towards my friend’s boyfriend, and then his wife and another friend joined in.
I was flabbergasted.
Those of us, who witnessed it, are truly disgusted.
There was a mixture of Afrikaans and English speaking people at the party, and if they defend their disgusting behavior by calling it the “boere way”, then I would rather not be called a “boer”.
I know a lot of Afrikaans guys who are real gentlemen and would never behave like this.
So for them to defend themselves by calling it the “boere way”, is cowardly and disgusting.
I really hope that this man and his wife read this letter and take some time to reflect on their despicable actions and behaviour.
