Another Actonville Spurs Protea

Actonville Spurs Cricket Club's David Wiese is set to play for the Proteas T20 team.

The cricket season is about to get underway and the Proteas will be touring Sri Lanka.

The tea-loving nation is about to witness the prowess of a star from Benoni.

Entering the world arena is Actonville Spurs Cricket Club’s very own son, David

Wiese, who will proudly be wearing the green and gold strip.

Wiese, who has been selected to represent South Africa in the T20 format of the game, was schooled at Witbank High and was selected to represent Easterns at u-15 level.

“Mohammad Ganchi [former Easterns administrator] ushered me to the avenue of club cricket,” he said.

“I joined the Actonville Spurs Cricket Club, as this was the perfect environment for me.

“My game improved in the Premier League division in Actonville and I am proud to say that I’ve been there for 13 years now and have made some of my best friends at this club.”

Wiese was only 15 years old when he started at Actonville Spurs and was carefully nurtured under the leadership of Tahir Jamal, Feroze Aerington and Theo Naidoo (all of whom had a part to play in captaining the Premier team).

Mohammed Ganchi and Cassim Sulieman (current Africa Cricket Association CEO) kept their eyes on Wiese who went on to represent Easterns in all the age groups.

Finally he was selected for the Easterns senior team and excellent performances, dedication and relentless efforts resulted in a contract at The Nashua Titans.

Wiese now has the chance of a lifetime and is officially the second star from Actonville Spurs who will be wearing the green and gold.

Spinner Imran Tahir also played for the club.

“We wish David all the best in Sri Lanka and beyond,” said Imtiaz Ghanchi, Actonville Spurs’ public relations officer.

“Actonville Spurs is fully behind you and we know that the rest of Benoni and South Africa feel exactly the same.”
