Grobler gears up for PSL season

Former Benoni High School pupil Bradley Grobler is keen to make his mark on this season's PSL.

Supersport United striker Bradley Grobler (25) is ready for the challenge of the new Premier Soccer League (PSL) season.

The league kicks off in August, with Supersport United, who recently unveiled Cavin Johnson as their new coach, squaring up against Free State Stars in their opening fixture.

Grobler, a former Benoni resident, is anticipating a fruitful season for his club and is looking forward to playing under Johnson.

“He is an excellent coach, with whom I have worked with before, during my time with Platinum Stars,” said the striker.

“He enjoys playing good football and will definitely bring a great style of play to the team.

“There is no reason why we cannot compete for the league title this season, because we have a really good squad.

“I think we will surprise a lot of people this season.”

The Benoni High School old boy also has some personal goals in mind and is aiming to end the season as the league’s top scorer.

He also aims to stay injury-free and to achieve selection for the Bafana Bafana team again, after making his debut for the national team against Zimbabwe, in 2011.

Grobler also scored his first goal for his country in that game.

The “Matsatsantsa” star said the PSL fixtures he is most looking forward to is playing against his former clubs (Platinum Stars and Ajax Cape Town), as well as the games against Soweto Giants,Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs.

Grobler is also excited about playing against English Premier League runners-up Manchester City, at Loftus Versfeld, on Sunday, July 14.

“It will be nice to play against players we see on TV all the time,” he added. The fondest memory he has of playing for Benoni High School was the fun he had.

“Although playing professionally is fun as well, the pressure we play under is quite intense,” he said.
