Silver medal for Koll in China
Benonian and elite triathlete Caroline Koll recently represented South Africa at the International Triathlon Union (ITU) Long Distance World Series event, in Weihai, China.
Competing in her first international triathlon since a break over the winter, Koll returned to form by clinching the silver medal and the highest finish of her career in an ITU event.
The triathlon consisted of a 3km swim in the turbulent water of the Yellow Sea, followed by a very hilly and technically demanding 80km cycle and a 20km run along the coastal front of Weihai.
Koll descended from the bike in third place, and then put in a dominating run to steal second place from Chinese double Olympian Dan Wang.
The race was won by Ewa Bugdol, of Poland, followed by Koll in second and Wang in third.
