Vosloo ton gives Actonville second win
Following a five-wicket victory against KwaThema, last week, Actonville Spurs Cricket Club’s Premier XI were aiming to achieve a win in their first home match of the season, versus Duduza, at Lords Cricket Ground, in Actonville, on Sunday, October 12.
Duduza won the toss and opted to bowl first on a bowler-friendly pitch.
Spurs started well and lost their first wicket for 26 runs.
After losing another wicket, the third wicket partnership stabilised the innings and laid the foundation for the fourth wicket partnership, to set up a challenging total for the visitors.
Actonville’s new signing, Gerhard Vosloo, who scored 70 runs against KwaThema last Sunday, continued from where he left off and notched up a superb century (114).
The signing of Vosloo is paying huge dividends for Spurs, as he helped the young top-order to steady the ship.
Nineteen-year-old Yash Mehta scored 31, and 18-year-old Darshan Mehta scored 40 not out, to steer Spurs to an innings total score of 271/5 in their 50 overs.
Duduza came out to bat and tried in vain to chase down the big total.
Ntsizwa Mahlangu (63) offered a glimmer of hope to the visitors, but Actonville’s bowlers persevered with the correct lines and lengths to restrict Duduza to 158 all out.
Actonville’s bowlers, Farhaad Omarjee (3/24), Mehta (3/19) and Vosloo (2/26) helped to secure the comfortable 113 run victory, as well as the all-important bonus point.
Spurs’ next fixture will be a tough one, as they take on last year’s runners-up, Kempton Park, away from home at the Barnard Stadium, on Sunday, October 20.
