Bonus point victory for Actonville

Actonville Spurs Cricket Club’s Premier XI took on Boksburg, at Lord’s Cricket Grounds, in Actonville, on Sunday, November 24, and were looking for some answers following defeats at the hands of Springs Old Boys, Benoni Northerns and CBC Old Boys, in recent weeks.

Head coach Thapelo Ditle’s team was put in to bowl by the visiting skipper, on a challenging wicket.

This early move paid dividends as Boksburg got off to a flyer, with John Haywood scoring 72 and smacking the Actonville bowlers all over the park.

Once his wicket fell, Actonville’s bowlers found some rhythm in the middle overs and restricted Boksburg to an attainable score of 200 all out.

Ruan du Plessis (44) and Pierre van Blerk (27) were the next best with the willow for the visitors.

Actonville’s skipper, Theo Naidoo (3/37), Xolile Nkomo (2/24) and Clayton August (2/31) were the best performing bowlers.

The recent trend of Actonville losing early wickets continued, but solid batting in the middle order by Ahmed Saloojee (32), Imraan Manack (65 not out) and Lafras Moolman (67 not out) saw the team chase down the target and pick up a vital bonus point in the process.

Ditle said that there is still room for improvements in all departments and that he is working hard with the younger players to rectify the mistakes.

Boksburg’s best bowler was ex-Actonville player, du Plessis, who bagged figures of 3/51.

  • In other weekend fixtures for Actonville, the club’s Third League team enjoyed a big win against Reiger Park, by eight wickets.

Spurs chased down a poor Reiger Park score of 90 in 13.1 overs, with the best bowlers being Mohammed Dawgie (3/12) and Zakariyya Moola (3/16).

Actonville’s Directors team lost to Wattville; the Presidents XI won against Vosloorus, the Second League team drew with Kempton Park, while the Fourth League team lost to Sunward Park.

The u-10A team were victorious against Wattville, while the u-8A and u-14 Super League teams were defeated.
