Indians clawed by Tigers

The Benoni Northerns Indians Baseball Club’s Major A team took on Marks Park Tigers, at Northerns, on Sunday, February 23.

The Indians were looking to make up for two consecutive losses in their first two games of the Major A Summer Baseball League.

Things did not, however, go as planned for Major A coach Kier Hynd and his players, when the Tigers held out in a close encounter to win the game 8-6.

Speaking about the game, Hynd commented: “We did not have a major league team last year, in Benoni, so this is a learning curve for our players, who have made the step up from Major B.

“We have a lot of young players who are still gaining experience at this level.”

He added that the team made a couple of errors in the game, and these, ultimately, cost them.

“Our batting seems to be headed in the right direction and it was our fielding that let us down, which is strange, because our fielding was our strong point in our first two games.”
