Actonville’s best cricketers are awarded

Actonville Spurs Cricket Club held its junior and senior prize-giving for the 2013/2014 Eastern Cricket season on Sunday, April 13.

Over the course of the season many players put in some noteworthy performances.

Players like Lafras Moolman, Xolile Nkomo and Imran Manack stood out with the ball for the Premier League side while Gerhard Vosloo was the leading run-getter in the side.

Youthful Ahmed “Jogee” Mohamed has shown promise of his batting talent.

The President’s League team achieved the double dream of a league and T20 success.

Under the guidance of Rajen Naidoo the young side put in some strong performances to complete their double swoop.

Safi Ahmed, Jared Naidoo and Mekyle Pillay are just three players from a talented pool who helped catapult the team to success.

The other league teams also had players who stood out.

The Second League side had Ridwaan Sookharia to thank for a fantastic season as he dominated the wicket-taking column and Ahmed Delair shone with the bat.

The Third League’s best performers included Zakariyya Moola and Hussain Dawgie but it was Mohamed Dawgie who was the main wicket-taker and leading run-maker despite being the team’s wicket keeper.

The Fourth League side, much changed from previous seasons, had a respectable season with seasoned batsman Imtiaz Ghanchi being their stand

out batsman.

Aslam Moola was their strike bowler of note.

Every Junior Player received an award for participating in the 2013/2014 Season.

“With as many as 12 young players making the EJCCA and Easterns winter and academy programs, Actonville Spurs Cricket Club’s future

remains bright,” said club chairman Abdul Raheman Data.

Representatives from the board of directors at Easterns Cricket were present at the awards function which included Gary Corrin, Thato Moagi and Llewellyn van Dyk.
