Away-day setbacks for Northerns

Two away game defeats have put Benoni Northerns Football Club’s first team on the back foot in the ELFA Super League Seniors Division One.

The team occupies third position in the league, but has a lot of work to do if they want to make this season a successful one.

A 4-0 demolition at the hands of Randburg’s Top Bet United on Thursday, April 17, followed by a 3-1 loss to East Sporting on Thursday, April 24, has put coach Flavio Mariuzzi’s team in a difficult situation but believes that the team can turn their form around.

“We have had some wholesale defensive injuries recently that have made life difficult for us,” said the coach.

“We have been very unlucky lately and will need to work hard to bounce back.”

The team’s next encounter will take place against Highlands Park on Saturday, May 10, a notoriously tough fixture for the Northerns team.
