Northerns girls win by one goal

The Benoni Northerns Football Club girls’ winter league team pick up another three points.

Benoni Northerns Football Club’s girls’ Winter League team played away from home on the night of Friday, August 1, when they took on Randburg’s second team.

According to coach Neil Senneck, it was always going to be tough for his players to get through the opposition’s defensive tactics of five at the back and four in the midfield.

Northerns had scoring opportunities but could not find the back of the net and went into the halftime break with the score at 0-0.

After a good halftime talk the girls came out in an attacking mood, but the Randburg goalkeeper played out of her socks to restrict Northerns to a solitary goal from Chané Opperman, about 20 minutes into the second stanza.

The game finished at 1-0, with another three points to Northerns and with Senneck praising the girls for playing with character and commitment.
