Seventh heaven for Bens
Old Bens Football Club’s first XI took on Parktonians away from home in an ELFA Super League Seniors Division Two encounter, on Saturday, August 2.
Coach Raymond Cloete’s men enjoyed their best start to a game this season, when Dale Skinner drove home a 30m strike in the third minute.
From that moment on Old Bens dominated the affair and soon scored their second goal from the tricky striker Lesiba Modau.
Bens then fell into a comfort zone and allowed Parktonians in to score a well worked goal that saw the half end with the score at 2-1.
After a good team talk from Cloete the visitors came out buzzing and managed to score five more goals in the second period with goals from Kenny Masuku (two), Jethson Cloete, Dean Steyn and a converted spot kick from goalkeeper Matthew Carter to round off a fantastic 7-1 win for the Benoni team.
“We did not have ideal preparation prior to this game, as some of our players arrived 10 minutes before kick-off due to heavy traffic,” said Cloete.
“The early goal from Dale settled things down nicely.”
Skinner was named Man of the Match.
