Mini cricket is ‘Good to Great’

Willowmoore Park hosted the KFC Mini Cricket Provincial Seminar.

The Easterns Cricket Union hosted the annual KFC Mini Cricket Provincial Seminar, at Willowmoore Park, on Friday, August 1.

The seminar was aimed at coaches and teachers who are registered with the KFC Mini Cricket programme and focused on this year’s theme, “Good to Great”.

The theme was fitting as the union, Cricket South Africa (the national body of cricket in the country) and KFC aim to make the KFC Mini Cricket Programme the best sports development programme in the country.

David Mokopanele, Cricket South Africa’s mini cricket coordinator, addressed the attendees and listed some of the objectives of the KFC Mini Cricket Programme for 2014/2015, including expanding and growing the programme, consolidating growth, ensuring that regular mini cricket matches are played, focusing on quality and talent identification, coaching coaches and the provision of equipment for all associated teams, among others

He showed how effective mini cricket can be in terms of long term development, by listing the example of the 12 players who came from the programme and who formed part of the team who won the ICC u-19 Cricket World Cup, in Dubai, in March.

He thanked the coaches and other role players who give up their time to help grow the game throughout the region.
