Birds fly long distances

BHS birds flew two races this weekend.

On Thursday, September 4, the Benoni Homing Society (BHS) basketed their birds for the first long distance race of the season.

Two races took place from Richmond, about 720km away, on Saturday, September 6.

Race one, the Old Bird National, saw the birds liberated at 6.45am, while the second race went up at 7.30am. TNT Lofts won both races.

Their first bird in the Old Bird National clocked in at 2.48.29pm, at a velocity of 1 495.511mpm, one minute and 50 seconds ahead of the next bird.

The first bird in the second race clocked in at 3.33.50pm, at a velocity of 1,494.429mpm, eight minutes and 35 seconds ahead of second place.

  • The results from the Old Bird National are: 1 TNT Lofts 1495.511mpm, 2 Andries Small 1 489.823mpm, 3 TNT Lofts 1 482.835mpm, 4 TNT Lofts 1 482.835mpm, 5 Jaco Faul 1 469.824mpm.
  • The results from the Richmond Two race are: 1 TNT Lofts 1 494.429mpm, 2 TNT Lofts 1 468.311mpm, 3 John Field 1 464.256mpm, 4 Andries Small 1 464.106mpm, 5 Frik and Colyn Nel 1 463.626mpm.
  • Club Standings: 1 Andries Small 633 points, 2 John Field 616 points, 3 TNT Lofts 614 points, 4 Jaco Faul 576 points, 5 Gert de Necker and Joe Gomes 517 points.
