Benoni Northerns Indians Baseball Club’s Major A team started their Summer Ball season with a 18-10 home win over Randburg Mets, on Sunday, October 19.
Major A’s head coach, Ashley Scott, said the team played well in hot conditions and did well to stick it out and take the victory.
He praised his pitchers, Warren Hand (starting pitcher) and Kyle Gaddin (finishing pitcher), for throwing really well in the game.
“Between them they struck out the opposition’s batters 15 times,” Scott said.
He commented that the Indians’ batters also had some good hits, particularly Richard Scrooby, who hit the team’s first home run of the season which, according to him, “was struck a country mile”.
The coach added that the team has welcomed back a number of players who have returned to the club and said that they have already made a telling difference.
The team will play Boksburg Cardinals, away from home, on Sunday, October 26.
